Consumer 'harassment': 7 power engrs suspended, 24 staff shifted
LUCKNOW, Feb. 25 -- In a major disciplinary action over alleged arbitrariness and harassment of consumers, seven electricity department engineers were suspended and 24 other employees transferred from Lucknow's Amausi zone on Tuesday.
The action was taken by the Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (MVVNL) following complaints of irregularities in power connections and billing corrections under the recently implemented vertical system.
The decision was approved after Ashish Kumar Goel, UPPCL chairman, took cognizance of reports highlighting alleged manipulation in issuing new electricity connections and revising consumer bills.
He subsequently directed Riya Kejriwal, MD, MVVNL to initiate a formal probe. A three-member inquiry committee headed by superintending engineer Yogendra Kumar Singh conducted a week-long investigation into the matter.
Based on the findings, executive engineer Neeraj Kumar, sub-divisional officers Anubhav Kumar Singh, Prashant Kumar Giri and Amit Kumar, along with junior engineers Dinesh Kumar, Ravindra Kumar Singh and Dinesh Pandey, were suspended. The suspended engineers have been attached to Bareilly pending further proceedings.
