Constable suspended, former SHO faces action in bribery case
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 10 -- Departmental action has intensified in a case involving the alleged demand and acceptance of a bribe of Rs 4.20 lakh for facilitating the release of funds frozen in connection with a cyber fraud investigation.
Constable Abhishek Kumar, posted at the Cyber Police Station and named in the FIR registered two days ago, has been suspended. A recommendation seeking the suspension of former Cyber Police Station In-charge Omnarayan Gautam, who has since been transferred to Varanasi, has also been forwarded to his current district of posting.
According to departmental sources, a confidential inquiry has been initiated to examine the role of other personnel posted at the Cyber Police Station.
The case stems from a complaint filed by woman constable Nishu Singh in connection with a cyber fraud incident involving her brother.
On May 28, 2025, she reported that her brother had been duped of Rs 60 lakh. During the investigation, the Cyber Police froze approximately Rs 33 lakh linked to the fraud. The frozen amount was later eligible for release following a court order.
In her complaint, Nishu Singh alleged that then Station House Officer Omnarayan Gautam and constable Abhishek Kumar demanded and accepted Rs 4.20 lakh, claiming it was a 20 percent commission for processing the release of the frozen funds....
