Dehradun, Aug. 21 -- A seven-member Uttarakhand Congress delegation led by state party president Ganesh Godiyal and party MP Kumari Selja on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC) in New Delhi, alleging irregularities and arbitrary deletion of eligible voters' names from electoral rolls during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR). "We came to the EC office, but initially no one came to meet us. So, we sat at the gate of the office. Finally, they came and we submitted our memorandum," Godiyal said. The Congress delegation alleged that a large number of eligible voters were being removed from electoral rolls in Uttarakhand under the guise of the SIR. "We have pointed out that massive irregularities are taking place in Uttarakhand under the guise of SIR, where the names of many eligible voters are being struck off the electoral rolls. He further claimed that the name of a Congress MLA had also been removed from the electoral roll after what he described as a fake objection was filed against him during the ongoing revision process. "The manner in which this is being done makes it clear that they are afraid of the Congress in the state and want to adopt such means to disenfranchise Congress supporters," he alleged. BJP state general secretary Tarun Bansal said the allegation that the BJP was getting fake objections filed was baseless. "SIR is not a political campaign but a constitutional electoral process for the revision of voter lists. Booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and other election officials verify voters' details according to prescribed rules, while booth-level agents of political parties also participate in the process," Bansal said....
