Lucknow, July 4 -- Commuting on some of the busiest national highways is set to become smoother as the NHAI plans to widen four key road corridors. A senior regional officer of the NHAI said the decision has been taken in view of the increasing traffic volume on these routes, which has exceeded their existing carrying capacity. The three highways identified for six-laning include the 65-kilometre Lucknow-Sitapur stretch, the 135-kilometre Jhansi-Orai section, and the 70-kilometre Orai-Bara corridor. The 102-kilometre Barabanki-Bahraich highway will be upgraded to four lanes to ease congestion. Officials said work on all four projects is expected to begin within the current fiscal. Land is also available along most stretches, while for additional land if needed acquisition will be carried out wherever required.
