Cong protests against NEET leak, demands edu min's resignation
Jaipur, May 22 -- Hundreds of Congress workers on Thursday took to the streets in Jaipur to protest alleged irregularities in this year's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
The rally set off from the State Congress office on Sansar Chandraprabhu Road and moved towards the BJP state headquarters in C-Scheme, but police halted the procession near Shahid Smarak.
"This recent paper leak has made it clear how the BJP is colluded in this paper leak case. They didn't dissolve the National Testing Agency (NTA) even after the paper was leaked in 2024. Had they taken a strict action, another paper leak could have been prevented," said Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra.
He further demanded the resignation of the union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. He said, "Even now, they haven't removed any NTA officials or dissolved the agency despite the CBI found that the NTA sources leaked the paper and sold it. PM Narendra Modi must hold the education minister Pradhan accountable for it and ask him to resign."
Dotasra also accused Rajasthan education minister, Madan Dilawar of colluding with paper-leak networks. "He was very close to the BJP leader Dinesh Biwal whose entire family has now been found pyrchasing and selling the question paper.
At least five people from his family also secured position in government colleges despite having a poor performance throughout their life," said Dotasra.
Alongside Dotasra, Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully and several Congress MLAs and senior party leaders joined the protest on Thursday.
Addressing reporters during the demonstration, Jully said, "The news of the NEET paper leak first blew off from Rajasthan. Yet, the government tried to sit on the matter. They didn't even file a single FIR till the CBI took over the matter. The government is playing with the future of 22 lakh [2.2 million] students of this country. This leak is a sharp jibe at the very interest of the students."
He alleged that the government is also trying to safeguard the several accused in this case. "I urge the government to immediately dissolve the NTA and ask the Union education minister to resign from his post," he said.
"Our senior leader Rahul Gandhi also raised the matter of paper leak and loopholes in the NTA in 2024 but the government unfortunately did not pay any attention to it," he added.
On Thursday police erected a series of barricades and deployed forces at Shahid Smarak. When the rally reached the site clashes broke out between protesters and police, and a few people sustained minor injuries. Police used water cannon and mild force to disperse the crowd.
State BJP president Madan Rathore said, "Congress has now lost any credibility to mobilise any movement or gherao.
Such action by them only aims to disturb the peace in the city. Our government has handed over the matter to the CBI who have arrested all the key accused in just a week."...
