Codeine-containing cough syrup worth lakhs seized in Balua Ghat, two named in FIR
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 23 -- As part of the ongoing investigation into the illegal trade of codeine-containing cough syrup, a raid by the Food Safety and Drug Administration team at a firm in Balua Ghat revealed the purchase and sale of restricted syrup worth several lakhs. Following a complaint by drug inspector Santosh Kumar Patel, the Atarsuiya police have filed a named FIR against Sanskar Verma and Vinod Kumar Verma of Balua Ghat.According to the complaint, the name of Om Sai Pharmaceutical at Atarsuiya in Prayagraj surfaced in a case registered on November 4 at Nandgram police station in Ghaziabad.
Subsequently, a raid on the firm's warehouse was conducted on November 11, uncovering codeine-containing syrup worth several lakhs. The department issued a notice on November 14.However, the firm's operators failed to provide any explanation or submit records of purchases and sales. Consequently, the firm's license was cancelled on December 5. The codeine-containing syrup was reportedly being misused and sold in the open market for excessive profit.
