Varanasi, Oct. 11 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 49th edition of the India Carpet Expo on October 11 at the Carpet Expo Mart in Bhadohi. The four-day event, organised by the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), will run from October 11 to 14. It is one of Asia's largest exhibitions of handmade carpets, rugs, and floor coverings. According to CEPC chairman Kuldeep Raj Wattal, this year's expo will feature over 150 exhibitors and host 442 overseas buyers from 67 countries. The event continues to be an important business and networking platform for the carpet industry. Wattal said the India Carpet Expo plays a key role in strengthening India's position in the global handmade carpet market. He also highlighted the ongoing efforts of CEPC to address tariff-related issues in major importing countries, including discussions around the proposed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). "We believe that with government support and continued dialogue, we can improve global market access and competitiveness for Indian carpets," Wattal added. He further stated that support from both the government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government has helped the industry face challenges and explore new markets. "This Expo is more than a trade fair. It reflects the strength, ambition, and global reach of our artisans, weavers, and exporters," he said. Dr Smita Nagarkoti, officiating executive director-cum-secretary of CEPC, said the Expo is expected to generate strong business leads and boost India's share in the global handmade carpet market. The inauguration will take place in the presence of UP MSME minister Rakesh Sachan, Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, and Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Amrit Raj.
