CM targets Oppn over women's reservation bill, Cong hits back
Dehradun, April 20 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday said that the opposition had been exposed before the nation on the issue of women's reservation, following Narendra Modi's address regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
Dhami in a press conference here at party office on Sunday said the Prime Minister's address clarified the attitude of the opposition on women's reservation and brought their "true reality" before the nation. He added that the "Central Government remains committed to ensuring dignity and empowerment for women across the country".
"Had this amendment been implemented earlier, it would have empowered women. To deny this is an injustice to half of the country's population. It is crucial for women's empowerment, and that is why the Prime Minister addressed the nation's women and even expressed regret that despite the government's best efforts, the bill could not be passed earlier in Parliament," said Dhami.
The chief minister said women in Uttarakhand are progressing in all sectors and will play a significant role in making the third decade of the 21st century the "Decade of Uttarakhand".
State Congress president Ganesh Godiyal criticised the BJP leadership, accusing it of spreading confusion and misleading the public over the issue of women's reservation.
He claimed that the "bill which failed to pass in the House was related to delimitation and not the women's reservation law"....
