Dehradun, June 10 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday directed officials to ensure that all roads across Uttarakhand are made pothole-free by November 15, following the monsoon season, while reviewing the state's preparedness for the upcoming rains at the Secretariat. Chairing a high-level meeting on monsoon preparedness, Dhami instructed all departments to "complete necessary arrangements before the onset of the rainy season and work in close coordination to strengthen disaster management, public amenities, health services and critical infrastructure". He directed officials to "complete all pending works in disaster-affected areas from the previous year before the monsoon begins". He also ordered inspections and timely repairs of bridges, culverts and drainage systems, and instructed departments to undertake cleaning of drains and water channels to prevent waterlogging and flooding. Emphasising public health preparedness, the chief minister directed the health Department to formulate an effective action plan to prevent dengue, malaria and other waterborne diseases. He ordered adequate availability of life-saving medicines, medical equipment and ambulances across the state. The chief minister also instructed all district magistrates to "obtain updated records of pregnant women from chief medical officers and regularly update the database". Special arrangements, including temporary accommodation near hospitals for pregnant women from remote and vulnerable areas and heli-ambulance services wherever required must be set up, he said. To strengthen disaster response, Dhami asked officials to prepare "updated district maps identifying landslide-prone zones, flood-prone areas, riverbank erosion sites and other vulnerable locations." He also directed the compilation of detailed lists of villages, schools, hospitals and other vulnerable critical infrastructure. He also ordered special inspections of vulnerable stretches along the Char Dham Yatra routes and national and state highways . He further instructed that warning signboards be installed in flood-prone areas and adequate stocks of relief and rescue materials be maintained in every tehsil. Round-the-clock coordination among the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the State Emergency Operation Centre and district control rooms was also stressed to ensure timely dissemination of weather alerts down to the village level. Dhami directed officials to remove encroachments before the monsoon to facilitate smooth drainage and traffic movement. He said essential services, including electricity, drinking water supply, road connectivity and telecommunications, should not face prolonged disruptions and also ordered safety audits of power lines near sewage treatment plants and bridges .
