Jaipur, Aug. 3 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Sunday laid the foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs.900 crore in Udaipur and Rajsamand districts while urging the state's youth to remain drug-free, disciplined and committed to nation building. Addressing a gathering at the Udaipur Municipal Corporation auditorium after virtually joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi's launch of the nationwide "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan", Sharma described young people as the driving force behind India's development and said their energy, talent and potential should be channelled in a positive direction. "The youth has a crucial role in nation building. They should remain free from addiction, disciplined and thoughtful so that they can contribute effectively towards building a developed India," the chief minister said, adding that the 100-week nationwide campaign would transform the fight against substance abuse into a mass public movement. Highlighting the state government's initiatives against drug abuse, Sharma said over 350 colleges, engineering institutions and polytechnic colleges in Rajasthan have established 'Nayi Kiran' de-addiction centres, while de-addiction wards are being developed in district hospitals under the 'Raj Savera' programme. He reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy against the illegal drug trade. The chief minister also outlined his government's efforts to create opportunities for young people through education, skill development and employment. According to Sharma, more than 0.178 million government appointments have already been made, recruitment is underway for over 0.132 million posts and preparations are in progress to fill another 70,000 vacancies. During his second day in Udaipur, Sharma inaugurated 21 completed development works worth Rs.47.48 crore and laid the foundation stones for 436 projects worth Rs.373.04 crore, taking the total value of development works announced in the district to about Rs.421 crore. The projects cover education, healthcare, drinking water, roads, tribal development, rural infrastructure and civic amenities. Earlier in the day, Sharma flagged off the 'Nari Shakti Rally' at Rajasthan Agricultural College, Udaipur, as part of the Women's Safety Pledge programme. The rally featured Rajasthan Police's Kalika patrolling unit, women police personnel, mounted police, women athletes, NSS volunteers and students, promoting the message of women's safety, dignity and empowerment. The chief minister also administered an anti-drug pledge to the youth. Later, in Rajsamand, Sharma inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 491 crore.
