Dehradun, Sept. 1 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday directed officials to develop skill and language training programmes for the state's youth in line with overseas employment opportunities, saying better coordination with Indian diplomatic missions could help connect skilled workers with jobs in countries facing shortages of trained manpower. Dhami issued the directions during meetings with India's High Commissioner to Jamaica Mayank Joshi, Ambassador to Ethiopia Devesh Uttam and High Commissioner to Zambia Alok Ranjan Jha at his official residence in Dehradun. Discussions focused on employment opportunities in the three countries, sectors facing shortages of skilled workers and the potential for Uttarakhand's youth to secure jobs abroad. The chief minister directed officials to maintain regular coordination with the respective Indian missions to obtain updated information on sectors where there is high demand for skilled human resources and employment opportunities. "Based on this information, training programmes should be designed to equip young people with the technical skills and language proficiency required in the respective countries", he said. "There is no shortage of talent or capability among the youth of Uttarakhand. If they are provided training and skills according to global requirements, they can access better employment opportunities," Dhami said. He instructed officials to prepare an effective action plan after assessing the demand for skilled manpower in different countries. "The plan should focus on identifying employment sectors, providing targeted training and ensuring that information about overseas job opportunities reaches eligible youth in a systematic manner", he said. Alok Ranjan Jha, India's High Commissioner to Zambia, said the country has a significant requirement for skilled human resources, particularly in the education and agriculture sectors. He said a detailed note identifying sectors in Zambia where skilled workers are required would be shared with the Uttarakhand government and assured all possible cooperation. Mayank Joshi, India's High Commissioner to Jamaica, said there were considerable employment opportunities in Jamaica in tourism, healthcare and agriculture. He particularly highlighted the demand for trained personnel in the nursing sector, saying appropriate skill training could help Uttarakhand's youth take advantage of these opportunities. Devesh Uttam, India's Ambassador to Ethiopia, said Ethiopia offered opportunities in management and logistics, besides the pharmaceutical and floriculture sectors. Dhami said the state government is continuously working to expand employment and self-employment opportunities for young people and that overseas employment could become another avenue for skilled youth. He stressed that training should not be generic but tailored to the requirements of individual countries and sectors. Coordination with Indian missions would be important in identifying changing labour-market requirements and ensuring that training programmes in Uttarakhand remained aligned with international demand, he said.
