Chinhat firing case: Two held, pistol used in crime recovered
LUCKNOW, Sept. 17 -- The Lucknow Police on Tuesday arrested two youths in connection with the September 13 firing incident in Chinhat, which had left a local man injured. The incident stemmed from old village rivalry.
Police identified the accused as Chhavinay Yadav (28) of Kaninpur Machhariari, and Zulfi alias Saif (22), a resident of Barabanki, who was staying in Chinhat.
" A joint team of Chinhat police and the East Zone crime unit nabbed them near National Udyog Ashram Inter College on Monday," said DCP East, Shashank Singh, addressing newspersons.
"From their possession, police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, allegedly used in the crime, a magazine and a live cartridge. Both face charges under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act," the DCP added.
According to police, the case dates back to a complaint lodged in December 2024, when complainant Premdas Yadav accused the duo of assault and issuing threats. On September 13 this year, the feud escalated when Yadvendra Singh Yadav (neighbour of the first complainant) was shot at on the premises of Pranami Mandir, Kaninpur Machhariari. Singh survived the attack and later named Chhavinay Yadav and three unidentified associates in his FIR.
Senior officers visited the crime spot soon after the incident. Forensic experts had also lifted a 7.65 mm spent cartridge and a metal fragment from the scene, which matched the recovered weapon....
