LUCKNOW, April 16 -- Uttar Pradesh chief secretary SP Goyal on Wednesday directed officials to ensure uninterrupted liquified petroleum gas (LPG) supply across the state and warned against any shortages, black marketing or hoarding. Reviewing the situation through a video conference with divisional commissioners and district magistrates, Goyal asked districts to maintain strict vigilance so that consumers did not face inconvenience. He also stressed targeted outreach to migrant labourers and unorganised sector workers, particularly in industrial clusters, by organising special camps to provide 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders for easier access to clean cooking fuel. Free Trade LPG (FTL) allows consumers to purchase 5 kg LPG cylinders over the counter without permanent address proof or a subscription voucher. Ideal for migrants, students and small households, these are available at oil marketing company outlets, retail points and kirana stores, requiring only valid ID proof. In parallel, the state is pushing piped natural gas (PNG) as a long-term alternative. Officials were told to accelerate the issuance of PNG connections and fast-track pending clearances. The chief secretary also reviewed farmer relief measures, directing timely compensation for crop losses due to recent unseasonal rains through special camps.
