Lucknow, Oct. 12 -- With the festive rush around Navratri and Diwali expected to increase footfall at Lucknow's Charbagh railway station, railway authorities are planning temporary barricading at vulnerable points where broken or missing boundary walls currently allow passengers to enter and exit the premises without security checks. Officials said around 50 plastic and 50 steel barricades will be installed across the station premises as an interim security measure. The permanent boundary wall is also proposed, but the construction is expected to take longer. One of the vulnerable points is near the parcel office of the Northern Railway's Charbagh station, where portions of the existing boundary wall are broken. The gap provides easy passage to passengers to move in and out of the station without undergoing checks. The movement through these points has been observed even on normal days and is expected to increase during the festival season, when the station witnesses a substantial rise in passenger footfall. Officials said such unauthorised access can pose a security concern, particularly when baggage can bypass the regular checking points. Senior divisional security commissioner, RPF, Devansh Shukla, said security arrangements were being strengthened keeping passenger safety in mind. "We are strengthening security at vulnerable points of the station, particularly ahead of the festival rush. Temporary barricading will restrict unauthorised entry and ensure that passengers and their baggage enter and exit through designated points under security supervision," Shukla said. The temporary barricading is expected to remain in place until the permanent boundary-wall work is completed. Officials said the barricading work is likely to be completed by December end or January, after which the entire station premises is expected to have secured boundary arrangements. The timeline for replacing the temporary arrangement with a permanent wall, however, remains unclear....
