Char Dham shrine areas receive fresh snowfall
Mussoorie, April 9 -- Areas above 2,800 metres, including the shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Yamunotri, as well as areas near the Gaumukh forest barrier close to the Gangotri shrine, experienced light to moderate snowfall on Wednesday, while several districts witnessed light to heavy rain. In Uttarkashi district, light snowfall was reported at the Gaumukh forest barrier near the Gangotri shrine and at the Yamunotri shrine.
Priest of the Gangotri Temple Committee Shailesh Semwal said, "Light rain was experienced at the Gangotri shrine while a moderate spell of snow covered the area near the Kankhu forest barrier towards Gaumukh on Wednesday morning and with cloud cover persisting it is likely to snow at night."
The Badrinath shrine also experienced a light spell of snow in the morning, leading to a dip in temperatures. Executive officer of Badrinath Nagar Panchayat Sunil Purohit said, "A light spell of snow was experienced in the Badrinath area, which is posing a challenge to the development works going on in the area." A duty officer at the IMD, Dehradun centre, wishing not to be named said, "For snowfall, we have data only for Mukteshwar and the Surkhanda Devi temple area, where no snowfall was recorded in the past two years."...
