Chandauli racers hog limelight in 5000m
LUCKNOW, Oct. 5 -- The Uttar Pradesh State Youth Athletics Championship on Sunday delivered thrilling performances across track and field events, with athletes from Varanasi, Bulandshahr, and Meerut dominating multiple disciplines, at the Guru Govind Singh Sports College here, featured intense competition in race walking, sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws across u-16, u-18, and u-20 categories.
Chandauli district swept the boys u-20 5000m race walk podium with Rishu Kumar claiming gold in 22:56.90, followed by teammate Shani Kumar (23:04.78), while Om Prakash from Sant Kabir Nagar took bronze in 25:23.05. In the girls u-20 category, Varanasi's Shikha Yadav won in 24:06.13, with Bandana Yadav second (24:19.88) and Allahabad's Komal third (25:32.72).
In other events of the day, Vishnu, Manisha Sagar Balyan, Sakshi Bhargav, Khushi Patel, Gunjan Yadav, Ramanand Singh, Harsh Mishra, Rajat Kumar, Abhay Pratap Singh, Dimpy Saini, Akash, Imran, Alka Bind, and Vanshika Rathi won gold medals.
Arnavi Pathak delivered a commanding performance to clinch a golden double at the Kiran Agarwal Memorial Lucknow District Badminton Championship, defeating Megan Prakash in the finals of both the girls' Under-15 and Under-17 singles events here on Sunday.
Abhijay Singh (Boys' Under-11), Sanchi Singh (Girls' Under-15), and Tathastu Rai (Boys' Under-17) also secured double titles during the tournament.
In the girls' Under-15 singles final, top-seeded Arnavi defeated second-seeded Megan Prakash 14-16, 15-11, 15-8 in a thrilling three-game match. Subsequently, Arnavi and Megan faced each other again in the Girls' Under-17 singles final, where the top-seeded Arnavi registered a 15-9, 15-8 victory over Megan Prakash.
Both Uttar Pradesh teams delivered impressive performances and won medals at the Open National Basketball Championship held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The boys' team secured the silver medal, while the girls' team won the bronze. The boys' team finished second in their pool, whereas the girls' team finished third in theirs.
Saurabh Poddar defeated Rohit Saxena 3-0 to win the men's 40+ category title of the 1st Masters UP State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, at the UPTTA Table Tennis Complex here on Sunday. In other categories, Sachin Kumar, Parag Agrawal, Vishal Arora, Deepak Singh, Ravi Tandon, SK Vinodia, Ranjit Kant Dave, Pallavi Singhal, Sahar Mehboob, Archana Tomar, Nirmala Singh and Ann Purnima Richards emerged victorious....
