Chain-snatching suspect escapes during raid
PRAYAGRAJ, July 8 -- A chain-snatching suspect escaped after a group of women allegedly surrounded and scuffled with a joint police team from Madhya Pradesh and Prayagraj's Karachhana during a raid in Baraon village on Tuesday morning, officials said. Following the incident, the village witnessed heavy police deployment as teams from several police stations searched for the absconding accused for several hours.
According to police, multiple gold chains were stolen during a Jain community event in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh recently. A suspect allegedly disclosed the name of Sanjay alias Ajay Sonkar, a resident of Baraon village under Karchhana police station limits, as being involved in the crime. The police reached the village at around 9am on Tuesday to arrest him. The accused was caught by a police constable after a brief chase. However, a large number of women surrounded the police personnel and scuffled with them. Amid the commotion, the accused escaped.
Karachhana station house officer Ranvijay Singh said cases would be registered against those identified for allegedly assaulting police personnel, obstructing government duty and helping the accused escape.

The Karari police arrested Shafiq, a resident of Bada Chauraha Budhwari under Kotwali Nagar police station, Aneesh of Baunamau village under Makhi police station, and Nisar of Baigwan village under Purwa police station, all in Unnao district, near the Hisampur canal bridge on Tuesday morning. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. The four-wheeler allegedly used in the thefts has been seized, and the three accused have been sent to jail after being produced before a court.
