LUCKNOW, Aug. 18 -- To mark 100 years of Charbagh railway station, a landmark of Lucknow and one of India's most celebrated examples of railway architecture, the Lucknow division has lined up a series of heritage-themed events blending history, art and modernity. "The centenary celebrations began on Independence Day with the planting of 100 saplings at Gandhi Park and the station's second entry area. A drawing competition on the theme, "Railways and Patriotism", for children followed on August 16. On Sunday, a street play depicting the station's history and its transformation into a modern hub was staged," senior divisional commercial manager Kuldeep Tiwari said. Divisional railway manager (DRM) Sunil Kumar Verma inaugurated a short film on Charbagh's heritage and released a commemorative book highlighting its role in India's architectural and rail history.
