CBI takes over murder case of Suvendu's aide
Kolkata, May 13 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday took over the probe into the May 6 murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari who was sworn in as West Bengal chief minister on May 9, following a request from the new state government, police officials said.
"A seven-member CBI team headed by a deputy inspector general based in Delhi arrived in Kolkata during the day and went to the scene of the crime. The other members of the team are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh," a state police official said, requesting anonymity.
A team of forensic experts accompanied the CBI officers, he added.
The development came 48 hours after a special investigation team of the West Bengal police nabbed two men from Bihar and one from Uttar Pradesh as prime suspects.
Mayanak Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya and Raj Singh were brought to Bengal and arrested on Monday morning after hours of interrogation. North 24 Parganas district's Barasat court remanded them in police custody for 13 days.
The state's special public prosecutor Bivas Chatterjee said all three were charged under Sections 103(1), 111 (2)(a), 126 (2), 3(5), and 61 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25 and 27 of the Indian Arms Act. The charges include murder, organised crime resulting in death, crime committed with common intent and criminal conspiracy....
