Lucknow, July 7 -- The CBI on Monday carried out searches at multiple locations in UP as part of a nationwide operation into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The searches were conducted at 26 locations across 11 states and union territories, including UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar, J&K, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. The action is linked to four criminal cases registered by the agency. According to CBI, the cases relate to alleged irregularities in the deployment of casual labourers and fraudulent payments made in names of fictitious workers under BRO's project Vijayak and project Yojak in Ladakh. The agency registered 4 FIRs based on criminal complaints filed by the ministry of defence after an internal inquiry by the BRO's technical board of officers. The FIRs include charges of misappropriation of govt funds, cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy under the IPC, along with offences relating to criminal misconduct and bribery under prevention of corruption act, 1988.
