PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 12 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday evening arrested an assistant personnel officer (APO) and an office superintendent of the North Central Railway's Prayagraj division for allegedly accepting a Rs.50,000 bribe, officials said. The arrests were made at the divisional railway manager's (DRM) office in Prayagraj following a complaint lodged on September 8 by a senior assistant loco pilot posted in Prayagraj. In his complaint, the railway employee alleged that officials were harassing him and his wife, who is also a senior assistant loco pilot posted in Kanpur, over her transfer and had demanded Rs.70,000 to facilitate the process. Following the complaint, the CBI conducted a preliminary verification of the allegations and subsequently laid a trap on Thursday. According to officials, the complainant reached the DRM office with part of the demanded bribe and met assistant personnel officer Arvind Kumar and office superintendent Rajendra Mani Tripathi. The CBI team, which was present at the office, caught the two officials soon after they allegedly accepted Rs.50,000 from the complainant. Following the arrests, the CBI team searched the office and examined documents related to the case. Some records were also taken into custody for further investigation, officials said. Later in the night, the CBI registered an FIR in Lucknow against the two officials under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, in connection with alleged bribery and criminal conspiracy.
