CBI arrests PNB manager in Agra for taking Rs.30K bribe
LUCKNOW, June 27 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch manager in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district for allegedly accepting a bribe to process solar loan files, officials said in a press release issued on Friday.
The accused, Praveen Yadav, manager of the Punjab National Bank's Bhadrauli branch in Barhan, Agra, was arrested on Thursday after the CBI caught him allegedly accepting Rs.30,000 as part of the illegal gratification during a trap.
According to the agency, it registered an FIR on Thursday based on a complaint filed by an employee of a private company. The complainant alleged that the bank manager demanded a bribe of Rs.7,000 per loan file to process and clear 19 solar panel loan applications.
The CBI said the total illegal demand initially worked out to around Rs.1.33 lakh, but after negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs.52,000 to clear all 19 loan files, which the bank had already duly sanctioned.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and allegedly caught the accused red-handed accepting the first instalment of the agreed bribe amount. The agency said Praveen Yadav was arrested on Thursday and will be produced before the competent court in Ghaziabad on Friday....
