CBI arrests BOB branch mgr, credit officer in Rs.35,000 bribery trap
LUCKNOW, July 16 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the branch manager and credit officer of the Bank of Baroda's Koireepur branch in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a borrower to release the overdraft component of a loan sanctioned under the Chief Minister Yuva Udyami Yojana, informed senior CBI officials in a press note on Wednesday.
The officials said the arrested officials have been identified as Swarnim Srivastava, Branch Manager, Bank of Baroda, Koireepur Branch, and Pushpak Chaudhary, Credit Officer at the same branch. They said the case was registered on Monday following a complaint from a beneficiary of the state government's entrepreneurship promotion scheme.
"The complainant alleged that he had been sanctioned a Rs.5 lakh loan under the CM Yuva Udyami Yojana, under which the term loan component had already been disbursed, while the overdraft facility was still pending. The complaint alleged that the two bank officials demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.45,000 for releasing the pending overdraft amount despite the loan having already been sanctioned," said a CBI official and added, "The CBI laid a trap arrested the two accused on Tuesday acting on the complaint"
During the operation, credit officer Pushpak Chaudhary was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs.35,000 as bribe from the complainant, acting in collusion with and at the behest of branch manager Swarnim Srivastava, the agency said. The CBI said the probe is ascertaining circumstances surrounding the alleged demand and acceptance of the bribe....
