PRAYAGRAJ, June 23 -- A member of a cattle-stealing gang carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested by Manjhanpur Kotwali police in Kaushambi following an encounter on Sunday night. The accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire and was later admitted to the district hospital for treatment before being formally booked. A country-made pistol, one spent cartridge, one live cartridge, and Rs 3,310 in cash were recovered from his possession. According to police, the accused has been identified as Guddu alias Sahil, a resident of Rahimpur Molani village under Karari police station limits. He was wanted in connection with multiple cattle theft cases and was carrying a cash reward announced by superintendent of police Satyanarayan Prajapat. The case pertains to thefts reported during the intervening night of April 29 and 30, 2026, when a buffalo and a calf belonging to Santosh Kumar of Bandhwa Rajbar village, along with two buffaloes owned by Arjun Kumar of Bhelkha village, were allegedly stolen. Following complaints by the owners, FIRs were registered against unidentified persons and an investigation was initiated.
