MEERUT, May 5 -- A group of youths on motorcycles allegedly shouted "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans while moving through the streets in a procession-like formation, triggering tension in Bareilly district on Sunday. The incident occurred near Mahadev Chowk in the Sadar Bazaar area under the Cantt police station limits and led to the registration of a criminal case, with police launching a manhunt to trace the accused. According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday when approximately 10 to 15 youths, riding seven motorcycles, passed through the area shouting slogans. The entire episode was captured on nearby CCTV cameras, providing key evidence for the investigation. Authorities are currently examining the footage to identify the motorcycle registration numbers as well as those involved. The situation escalated when a local resident, identified as Vikas Kumar, objected to the sloganeering. In his complaint, he alleged that the accused-named as Imran and Kasif, along with their associates-reacted aggressively. They allegedly abused him, tried to physically assault him, and issued death threats. The accused had reportedly fled before police personnel arrived at the scene. Based on Vikas's written complaint, the Cantt police station registered a case under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). SHO Sanjay Dheer said the charges include Section 196(1)(B) for disobedience of orders issued by a public servant, Section 191(2) related to rioting, Section 352 for intentional insult likely to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 351(3) for criminal intimidation involving threats to life. Police teams have launched multiple raids to locate and arrest Imran, Kasif, and their unidentified accomplices.
