PRAYAGRAJ, May 2 -- Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals over the circulation of photographs showing the private parts and face of a female patient admitted to the Autonomous State Medical College in Kaushambi. The action was taken late Friday evening following a written complaint and orders from the superintendent of police. The incident involves a 22-year-old woman admitted to the obstetrics and gynecology department on April 26. She underwent surgery, led by a medical team including gynecologist Dr Varsha Kesari and Anesthetist Dr TB Maurya, to extract a cyst. During the surgery, photographs were taken and later circulated widely on social media platforms. The images clearly displayed the patient's face and private parts, constituting a serious breach of medical ethics and patient privacy. The viral circulation sparked widespread outrage among civil society members and women's groups. State women's commission member Pratibha Kushwaha had previously raised concerns and urged the superintendent of police (SP) to take immediate action. DSP (Manjhanpur) Shivank Singh confirmed efforts are underway to identify who took the photographs in the operation theatre (OT) and how the images were leaked outside the hospital premises.
