LUCKNOW, Aug. 13 -- Carcasses of six buffaloes were found floating in the Gomti near Basahari Ghat in the Bakshi Ka Talab tehsil under Itaunja police on Wednesday. The incident came to light after a foul smell from the decomposing carcasses spread in the area. Sub-divisional magistrate, BKT tehsil, Akash Kumar said, "The carcasses had floated in from districts bordering Malihabad. Six buffalo carcasses were recovered from the river and disposed of properly. The area was also sanitised to ensure there was no risk of infection." A crowd of villagers gathered at the spot following the discovery. Villagers expressed concern over the risk of infection, saying stray dogs were tearing at the carcasses and dragging pieces of flesh into the village. Earlier, villagers had submitted a memorandum addressed to the district magistrate to the Itaunja station house officer (SHO), demanding that the administration remove the carcasses.
