BAHRAICH, Aug. 11 -- A car allegedly breached security barriers and entered the restricted area of the Rupaidiha Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the India-Nepal border without authorisation before crashing through a gate while trying to flee, on Sunday afternoon, said police on Monday. Rupaidiha station house officer (SHO) Harendra Mishra said the vehicle owner, Mohammad Salam, son of Mohammad Kaleem Ahmad and a resident of Basgeerganj under the City Kotwali area of Bahraich, has been apprehended and is being interrogated. According to the SHO, another person travelling in the vehicle remains absconding. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway. According to a complaint filed by the ICP security adviser at Rupaidiha police station, the incident occurred around 3pm on August 9. The vehicle, bearing registration number UP 40 AR 7224, allegedly tried to evade security checks and continued towards the ICP despite being signalled to stop. SSB personnel and private security guards deployed by the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) reportedly tried to stop the vehicle. However, the driver allegedly ignored their warnings and rammed the car into the gate barrier. The situation escalated when an LPAI security guard closed the speed gate to stop the vehicle from proceeding. However, the driver allegedly rammed through the gate at high speed and fled the premises. A motorcycle parked inside the ICP was also damaged in the incident. The SSB termed the incident an attempted unauthorised entry rather than a security breach. SSB 42nd Battalion Deputy Commandant Dilip Kumar said the incident occurred around 2:50pm on August 9, when an Alto car allegedly tried to enter the ICP through the front gate meant for cargo trucks. Following the incident, the LPAI lodged an FIR and coordinated with the local police and SSB, leading to the eventual arrest of the driver. Rupaidiha SHO Harendra Mishra said a case has been registered at Rupaidiha police station under Crime No. 214/2026, invoking Sections 281 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)....
