Cabinet approves safe reuse of treated water
Lucknow, March 24 -- The state Cabinet on Monday took a significant step to implement a new policy for the safe reuse of treated water.
It has formulated a plan to promote the safe utilisation of treated water through sewage treatment plants (STPs) and faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs).
Now, non-drinking water will reach houses via dual pipe systems.The objective of this policy is to treat and repurpose wastewater generated by households and industries, thereby reducing the pressure on drinking water resources.The demand for water across the state-in the irrigation, domestic, industrial, and energy sectors-is constantly on the rise.
Under this policy, wastewater generated in both urban and rural areas will be treated and, in the first phase, utilised for municipal purposes, construction activities, horticulture, and irrigation.
In the second phase, the scope of this initiative will be expanded to sectors such as industry, agriculture, and railways.
In the third phase, the supply of water for non-potable uses will be ensured to households through a dual pipe system.
This initiative will not only conserve clean drinking water on one hand but also help reduce pollution in water bodies on the other. Ultimately, this will foster water conservation and lead to a reduction in energy consumption....
