Bulandshahr: No commercial LPG to hotels, restras amid supply concerns
Meerut, March 11 -- The Bulandshahr district administration has barred hotels and restaurants from receiving 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders, restricting the supply only to essential institutions such as schools and hospitals. The move follows government instructions amid concerns that ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran could affect global gas supplies.
Officials said the district supply department implemented the order as a precautionary step to manage available LPG stocks.
Under the new arrangement, commercial cylinders will no longer be provided to hotels, restaurants and other food businesses until further notice; educational institutions and healthcare facilities will continue to receive supplies.
The decision is expected to significantly impact the local hospitality and food sector. According to official estimates, Bulandshahr district has more than 500 hotels and restaurants and over 1,000 roadside eateries (dhabas) that rely on commercial LPG cylinders for daily operations.
Additionally, more than 5,000 street food vendors in the city depend on LPG cylinders for cooking.
District supply officer (DSO) Abhay Singh said the step has been taken strictly in compliance with government directives. "On the instructions of the government, the supply of commercial cylinders to hotels and restaurants has been stopped," he said.
The hospitality industry, however, has expressed concern over the move. Hotel operator Ashraf Saifi said the decision could cause heavy losses to business owners.
"If the supply remains disrupted, hotels will only be able to run their businesses for two to three days," he said, adding that traders hope the government will soon find a solution to ease the situation....
