PRAYAGRAJ, July 10 -- A 26-year-old bride-to-be and her younger brother were killed, while her fiance sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in crashed into a parked pickup truck on the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway in Pratapgarh district late on Wednesday night. The trio was on their way to drop the woman's fiance at his home in Mungra Badshahpur in neighbouring Jaunpur district. The impact left the car wedged beneath the rear of the pickup, forcing rescuers to use a JCB machine to pull the vehicle free, police said. The deceased were identified as Roli Soni, 26, a resident of Mankapur in Gonda district, and her 23-year-old brother, Akash Soni. Roli's fiance, Mohit Soni, 29, was referred to a hospital in Prayagraj for advanced treatment. According to police, Roli and Mohit got engaged around two months ago and were scheduled to marry in November. Mohit had recently visited his fiancee's family in Gonda, and Roli and Akash were accompanying him back to Jaunpur in the family's car. Mohit was driving when the accident took place at around 12.30 am. Raniganj SHO Vijaykant Satyarthi said preliminary investigation indicated that the car rammed into the rear of a plywood-laden pickup truck parked along the roadside. According to Mohit's statement to police, the three were talking and laughing inside the car moments before the crash. He reportedly told investigators that during the conversation, Roli's hand accidentally came into contact with the steering wheel, causing the car to veer off course and crash into the stationary pickup parked along the highway. Police said the claim is being verified as part of the investigation....
