BRICS culture group concludes second meeting in Varanasi
VARANASI, June 6 -- Second BRICS Culture Working Group Meet in Varanasi concluded on Friday witnessing substantive deliberations on strengthening cultural cooperation among BRICS nations.
The two-day meet also laid emphasis on institutional strategies for cultural heritage protection and the return of cultural property, as well as collaborative approaches for safeguarding shared heritage through joint nominations under UNESCO World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and Memory of the World (MoW) programmes.
Earlier, during the sessions, representatives deliberated on cultural priorities identified by India, including the creative economy, protection of cultural heritage and culture-led sustainable development. Delegations from India, Brazil, China, South Africa, the UAE, Indonesia and Iran attended in person, while representatives from Russia, Ethiopia and Egypt participated in online mode.
