Brass trader's daughter among five held for plotting Rs.1.20cr robbery
MEERUT, May 16 -- Moradabad police on Thursday arrested five people, including the 26-year-old daughter of a brass trader and property dealer, for allegedly planning a Rs.1.20 crore robbery at her own home with the help of her boyfriend and his associates. About six other suspects are still absconding.
The robbery occurred early Monday morning at the residence of businessman Imran in Akbar Compound under the Nagphani police station area. Armed assailants reportedly held the family hostage before escaping with cash and valuables worth around Rs.1.20 crore.
Following the incident, senior police officials, including Bareilly Zone ADG Ramit Sharma, DIG Muniraj G, and SSP Satpal Antil, visited the spot and initiated an extensive investigation. Five police teams were formed to trace the accused.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from several locations. Investigators found that the vehicles used in the robbery had fake number plates during the crime, but the original plates were reattached before the vehicles crossed a toll plaza. This helped investigators trace the vehicles' actual registration numbers.
Police later detained a car owner, identified as Kuldeep, for questioning, which reportedly exposed the entire conspiracy. Acting on leads from the investigation, they arrested Arshad Warsi, a resident of Makdoompur in the Naugawan Sadat area of Amroha district, who is said to have been in a relationship with the businessman's daughter, Areba.
Police later arrested Ravi Kumar, a resident of Bijra, and Nikki, a resident of Tigariya Bhud in Gajraula, Amroha.
SSP Satpal Antil said Arshad, a student at IFTM College, met Areba there and they developed a relationship, later planning to marry. Police added that Arshad came from a modest background, and Areba allegedly planned the robbery to support him financially. Investigators said the conspiracy had been in the works since January this year.Police have recovered Rs.47 lakh in cash, country-made pistols, and two cars used in the crime from those arrested. Raids are continuing to catch the remaining absconding members of the gang....
