Boy from Nepal killed, 23 others injured as truck collides with bus
Meerut, Feb. 11 -- An 11-year-old boy from Nepal was killed and 23 others were injured after a truck collided with an India-Nepal Maitri bus while trying to avoid a stray animal on the Pilibhit-Puranpur road under jurisdiction of Gajraula police station in Amroha district late Monday night.
The accident occurred at around 2am near Sakariya Tiraha in the Jara outpost area when a truck heading towards Pilibhit, amid dense fog, suddenly encountered a stray animal on the road.
In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, the truck rammed into the India-Nepal Maitri Service bus coming from the Puranpur side.
Following the collision, the truck overturned on the road, while the bus toppled over along the roadside.
The impact left 23 people injured, including the truck driver, and several passengers travelling in the bus.
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Puranpur using ambulances. After receiving primary treatment, the injured were referred to the district hospital for further medical care.
Among the injured was Subhan (11), son of Suraj, a resident of Nepal, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Puranpur CHC.
Police said all the passengers travelling in the bus were residents of Nepal and were on their way to Delhi in search of labour work.
Gajraula station house officer Brajveer Singh said that as soon as information was received, a police team reached the spot.
With the help of a hydra crane, the overturned truck was moved to the side of the road. The road has been reopened for traffic and legal action is being taken in the matter....
