GORAKHPUR, July 26 -- A 12-year-old boy died rescuing two children from a swollen drain in Pyasi village, under the Bhatni police station limits, in Deoria district, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred when Raunak had gone to the overflowing Koliyar drain along with two other children from his village. While they were bathing, the children were swept away by the strong current. Without hesitation, Raunak jumped into the water and managed to push both of them to safety. However, the powerful current dragged Raunak into a deeper section of the drain, where he drowned before villagers could rescue him. The villagers immediately rushed the boy to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Salempur, where doctors declared him dead. The incident plunged the village into mourning, with family members and residents grieving the loss of the young hero. Station house officer (SHO), Bhatni, Vinod Kumar Singh, said, "The police were informed by the community health centre after the child was brought there. By the time our team reached the hospital, the family had already taken the body home." Raunak was one of a pair of twins. Villagers hailed him as a hero who sacrificed his own life to save two other children, turning a tragic accident into a story of extraordinary courage and selflessness. ABDUR RAHMAN...
