LAKHIMPUR KHERI, July 24 -- Within 24 hours of a woman being killed in the Dhaurahra forest range of Dudhwa buffer zone, another leopard attacked an eight-year-old boy in Bairiya village under Padhuva police limits on Thursday evening. According to villagers, the boy, identified as Golu, had gone to graze his goats in the fields when a leopard, hiding in a sugarcane field, attacked him and dragged him into the field. Locals rushed to his rescue and managed to chase the leopard away, after which it disappeared into the neighbouring dense fields, they added. However, the child succumbed to his injuries, and his body was later recovered from inside the sugarcane field. Deputy director of the Dudhwa buffer zone, Kirti Chaudhary, confirmed the fatal attack and said efforts were underway to identify and trace the leopard responsible. Sub-divisional officer (SDO) Manoj Tiwari said officials from the Belrayan forest range had been rushed to the spot.
