Body of AMU student found hanging in hostel room
AGRA, Oct. 27 -- The body of a student of the Women's College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was found hanging in her hostel room on Saturday night, police said. No suicide note was recovered, though the case prima facie appeared to be one of suicide, they added.
According to university officials, the deceased, aged around 20 years old, was a second-year undergraduate student of arts. Her brother, also a student at AMU, was among the first to be informed along with the family residing in Moradabad.
Aligarh circle officer (CO-III) Sarvam Singh said the family members had not given any complaint against anyone and did not want a post-mortem examination either. "Prima facie it appeared to be case of suicide," he added. AMU proctor professor Mohammad Wasim Ali said, "Information was received about a body hanging from the ceiling fan in one of the rooms of Mumtaz Hall, which houses students of Abdullah Girls' College. No suicide note was found. Two of the deceased's brothers are AMU students and were informed, along with the family."
Prof Ali said that the family reached the university in the early hours of Sunday and took the body later in the day. Reports said the student had last spoken to her brother on the phone on Friday evening but met no one on Saturday....
