KANPUR, Sept. 23 -- A station house officer (SHO) in Jalaun was sent to the police lines on Tuesday following allegations by a local BJP leader that he was locked inside a room at the police station and forced to perform 'Naagin' dance for around 10 minutes. Jalaun SP Vinay Kumar Singh said action was taken against Rampura SHO Shiv Prakash Singh after the matter came to his notice and a preliminary inquiry was conducted. The SP also said several complaints had previously been received against Singh. "There were already several complaints against the SHO and action was taken against him after the matter was looked into at the preliminary stage. Shiv Prakash Singh has been attached to the police lines, while KP Saroj has been given charge of Rampura police station," the SP said. The allegations were made by Dinesh Mishra, who also runs a tent house business. Mishra had alleged that the SHO made him perform the dance after he went to the police station two days ago to get an employee released. Mishra said the employee had been detained for allegedly creating a disturbance while drunk. He alleged that during their conversation, the inspector demanded 20 sacks of cement from him. Mishra said he told the officer that he had met such demands in the past but was unable to provide the cement this time. He alleged that the inspector became angry, took him into a room and shut the door before asking him to perform 'Naagin' dance. Mishra claimed he continued dancing for around 10 minutes due to pressure and fear. He later complained to the SP and district panchayat chairman Ghanshyam Anuragi. Mishra had also alleged that some prominent local residents reached the police station after learning about the incident and confronted inspector. He claimed station in-charge admitted his mistake in their presence. Mishra and his associates later informed local BJP MLA Moolchandra Niranjan about the matter. BJP leaders said the MLA spoke to the SP over the phone and sought action against the inspector. Mishra also alleged that BJP mandal president Santosh Prajapati was called to the police station at around 8pm that night.
