BJP sweeps 5 of 6 vacant VNN executive committee seats
Varanasi, July 19 -- In the elections for the six vacant seats on the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) executive committee, the BJP secured five seats, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) claimed the remaining one. The polls, held on Friday, saw a high voter turnout of 95.53%, with 107 of the 112 eligible corporators exercising their franchise.
The elected members are Balram Kannaujia (Ward No. 09), Indra Rani (Ward No. 10), Sandeep Raghuvanshi (Ward No. 31), Sanjay Keshari (Ward No. 84), Narsingh Das (Ward No. 96) and Govind Prasad Singh- the lone SP member who won (Ward No. 49). The election process, overseen by returning officer Ayodhya Prasad Tiwari, was held to fill vacancies created after the terms of previous members expired on June 27.
