BJP hails move to field Dhami as next CM face
Dehradun, April 25 -- The Uttarakhand BJP welcomed the party's national president Nitin Nabin statement that the ruling party would project chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as its face in the 2027 assembly elections.
BJP MLA Vinod Chamoli said, "It is a welcome statment. We have won many elections under the leadership of CM Dhami, from local bodies to winning all five Lok Sabha seats. We are confident that we will make a hatrick of victories in the next assembly elections."
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Congress said it was "good news" for the party after BJP national president Nitin Nabin indicated that the ruling party would project chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as its face in the 2027 assembly elections.
The Opposition party said the level of anti-incumbency against the Dhami government is unprecedented, and it will benefit Congress if Dhami becomes the face of BJP in the upcoming elections.
In a recent television interview, when asked whether the BJP would go into the 2027 polls projecting Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Dhami as its faces, Nabin said, "They are our chief ministers and we run the government under their leadership. Certainly, they will be the faces."
Reacting to the statement, Uttarakhand Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said, "It is good news and a positive sign for us. The level of anti-incumbency against the Dhami government is unprecedented."
She alleged that the situation in the state deteriorated over the past four years, claiming that "the social fabric has been disturbed and divisive narratives have been promoted, leaving every section of society distressed."
Dasauni further said unemployment was at an all-time high and alleged that job aspirants were being met with "lathicharge and FIRs instead of opportunities." She also flagged issues such as rising prices, alleged recruitment scams, and crimes against women.
"The government has failed to address human-wildlife conflict. There is a sense of apathy everywhere. Roads are in poor condition, hospitals lack adequate facilities, villages are emptying due to migration, and schools face a shortage of teachers. Anganwadi and ASHA workers are also facing difficulties," she said.
"No section of society is satisfied with the Dhami government. It has failed to take concrete steps for the people," she added.
BJP state media in charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said there is enthusiasm across the state, particularly among youth and women, under Dhami's leadership, and that the public is satisfied with the government's performance.
He said the Congress's reaction to statements by the BJP's national leadership reflects its "restlessness and disappointment".
Chauhan added that instead of commenting on the BJP, the Congress should introspect over its internal factionalism....
