PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 14 -- A BJP functionary narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt when two masked assailants opened fire at him in Khapatiha village under the Handia police station area in Prayagraj late on Saturday evening. The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident. According to the complaint filed with the police, Akshat Tiwari, BJP District General Secretary and a resident of Khapatiha Tivran village, was sitting at a shop opposite his residence, when the incident occurred. Police said two men wearing masks arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly began abusing Tiwari and later one of the accused allegedly fired a shot from a country-made pistol. The bullet narrowly missed Tiwari, who escaped unhurt. Tiwari later reached Handia police station along with party workers and submitted a written complaint, alleging that the attackers had fired at him with the intention of killing him.
