Dehradun, Aug. 29 -- A day after state Congress in-charge Kumari Selja visited Dehradun, state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt took a swipe at the opposition and said that she did not mention anything about the victims of recent disasters in Dharali and Tharali. Alleging that Shelja failed to acknowledge the victims of recent disasters in Dharali and Tharali during her visit to Dehradun on Wednesday, Bhatt said: "It is unfortunate that she did not express concern for those affected. Her meeting seemed limited to organisational politics and internal complaints." Pointing to the party's performance in the recent Zilla Parishad elections, he said: "Public has expressed its desire for a change by giving BJP 11 Zilla Parishad president seats. The mandate was based on trust and dedication to development, not money power." He further said: "Those who could barely secure one out of 12 district panchayat president seats should understand the public sentiment. The people have consistently indicated their preference for change, reflected in repeat mandates for the BJP both at the state and central levels." The BJP leader urged Congress to abandon negative politics, warning that BJP would continue to receive public support while Congress struggled to revive. On Wednesday, Selja highlighted efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. Speaking to media after a meeting with senior leaders and MLAs at the state headquarters in Dehradun, she said, "We discussed our Sangathan Srijan (organisation revamp) campaign, which has already yielded positive results in other states. From September 2, the AICC will deploy observers in each district, supported by three state-level observers." In response to Bhatt's allegations, Congress senior vice president Suryakant Dhasmana highlighted the opposition party's efforts to respond to the disaster in Dharali, Harsil, and other affected areas. "It is unfortunate that BJP leaders are unaware of Congress' active engagement. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were among the first to express concern via social media. Our state president Karan Mahara personally visited disaster sites, navigating flooded rivers and risky terrain to assist victims, while BJP leaders did not visit affected areas and offered only lip service," he added....
