Bihar: Bhojpur, Siwan SPs among 16 IPS officers transferred
PATNA, Aug. 19 -- The Bihar government on Tuesday transferred 18 IPS officers, including the superintendents of police (SPs) of Siwan and Bhojpur, a day after shifting the district magistrates (DMs) of the two districts amid controversies over recent police action.
According to a notification, Nalanda SP Bharat Soni has been posted as Siwan SP, replacing Puran Kumar Jha. Awadhesh Kumar Dixit, who was posted at headquarters as SP (Personnel-1), has been appointed Bhojpur SP, replacing Raj. The transfers came on the day the Bihar government informed the Supreme Court about the alleged use of an AK-47 during a student protest in Siwan on July 25. Raj was heading the Bhojpur police when local activist Bharat Tiwari was killed in an encounter. On August 17, the government transferred Siwan DM Vivek Ranjan Maitrey and appointed Vijay Prakash Meena, as the new DM. htc...
