VARANASI, Aug. 7 -- Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has initiated the process of setting up a mechanism to monitor and promote research integrity on campus. To this end, the university has constituted a committee to propose its structure, mandate and operational framework. The committee has also been tasked with examining research paper retractions. Taking note of papers authored or co-authored by some faculty members that have been retracted, the university has sought detailed information from those concerned. The panel will ascertain the facts behind the retractions and recommend appropriate action, if required. Vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said the university aims to establish a mechanism that promotes and facilitates research integrity while creating an institutional framework to monitor research quality and flag practices unacceptable to the academic community. The committee will be chaired by Prof Rajeev Raman, Professor in the Department of Zoology. Its members include Prof Madhoolika Agrawal, former professor of Botany; Prof Vibha Tripathi, former professor of AIHC & Archaeology; and Prof Manoj Pandey, Dean, IMS.
