Bhojpuri actor Pawan booked for alleged fraud
VARANASI, Sept. 4 -- Four people, including Bhojpuri film actor Pawan Singh, have been booked for an alleged fraud of about Rs 1.30 crore. The police registered the case against them at the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Varanasi. A police officer said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and an investigation has been initiated.
Hotel businessman Vishal Singh, a resident of Natiimli in the city, filed a plea in court, seeking a direction to the police to register a case against Pawan Singh and three others for duping him of his money. In his plea, Vishal said that he met Premshankar Rai and his wife during his studies in Mumbai. Both of them made him invest crores of rupees in the name of making a Bhojpuri film in 2018 and assured him that the amount spent would be returned in the form of subsidy and profit.
The film featured actor Pawan Singh and director Arvind Chaubey. When the talks were confirmed, Vishal deposited about Rs 32.60 lakh directly into the accounts in installments. Approximately Rs 1.25 crore was spent on the shooting and post-production of the film, said Singh, who alleged that despite this, neither the money was returned nor was a share in the profit given to him. He also alleged that the accused prepared forged documents and showed him as the producer, and when he demanded the money, he was evaded.
After hearing the plea, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Manish Kumar, on August 19, ordered the police to register a case and investigate the matter....
