Kolkata, May 28 -- Renowned Bengali movie director Anik Dutta died on Wednesday after falling from the roof of a multi-storey apartment building in Kolkata's Gariahat, with the police suspecting it to be a case of suicide, an officer aware of the matter said. Police said Dutta's wife lives in one of the flats in that building and that a suicide note was found on the roof. "He (Dutta) was found lying in a pool of blood on the driveway and was declared dead on arrival at Manipal Hospital in south Kolkata's Dhakuria. A suicide note was found on the roof of the Hindustan Park house. The handwriting is being examined," a police officer said. "No relative or friend of the deceased lodged a police complaint. Hence, police filed a case of unnatural death," Saikat Ghosh, DCP, south-east division, told reporters. Dutta's 2012 debut movie Bhooter Bhabishyat, a comical satire, became an instant hit. Dutta's 2022 movie Aparajito received critical acclaim for its depiction of the making of Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray. CM Suvendu Adhikari went to SSKM Hospital and offered condolences to Dutta's relatives. "His contributions towards Bengali Cinema are priceless," Adhikari wrote in an X post.htc...
