LUCKNOW, Oct. 28 -- Former champions Uttar Pradesh stretched their lead against Odisha to 137 in the rain-curtailed third day of the 4-day Elite Group A Ranji Trophy encounter at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Monday. After resuming at the overnight score of 262/3 with a 19-run lead in reply to Odisha's 243 runs in the first innings, Uttar Pradesh batters scored quick runs and ended the day at 380/6 in 128 overs. Continuous drizzle soon after lunch didn't allow any further delivery to bowl on the penultimate day of the encounter. Only 42 overs were bowled during the day. After resuming at the overnight score of 83, skipper Sharma went on smacking 276-ball 121 with the help of 12 hits to the fence, whereas Yadav struck 101 in 198 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and two sixes before he was retired hurt. It was the fourth century for Sharma in as many as 22 first-class matches before being stumped by Aashirwad Swain off Badal. Yadav scored his maiden first-class century in his third match of the career. His previous best was 18 in the first two matches in 2022. The two added 225 runs for the fourth wicket and laid a solid foundation for the side. This included a 194-run fourth-wicket partnership between Sharma and Yadav, and 31-run between Sharma and Prashant Veer (6). For yet another time, former India-19 World Cup skipper Priyam Garg couldn't show his class with willow, scoring just 31 in 76 balls with the help of three boundaries. He was stumped by Rajesh Dhuper off Sumit Sharma while attempting a big hit. All-rounder Vipraj Nigam (14, 22b, 2x4) was at the crease at stumps....
