Basti SHO dies bysuicide amidalleged Rs.1 croreextortion demand
LUCKNOW, Sept. 7 -- A 56-year-old station house officer in Basti allegedly died by suicide after being subjected to blackmail and an extortion threat, police said on Sunday, following which a woman, her father and a lawyer were arrested in connection with the case.
Basti Range Deputy inspector general, Sanjeev Tyagi said the three accused were arrested near the district hospital on Sunday morning. Police said they also recovered a Bolero and three mobile phones from the accused.
According to investigators, the woman allegedly befriended financially well-off men, established relationships with them and subsequently used private audio-visual material to threaten and extort money. Her father and lawyer allegedly assisted her in collecting the money, police said. The case came to light after the Walterganj SHO was found hanging at his government accommodation near the collectorate on August 29. He had been posted as Walterganj SHO on April 18 after being transferred from Siddharthnagar.
Police said the SHO came in contact with the woman after she approached him in connection with a case registered against her husband at Walterganj police station. Investigators said the two subsequently developed a close relationship.
Police alleged that the woman later began blackmailing the SHO and demanding money from him. On August 29, at around 1.41pm, lawyer VP Yadav allegedly spoke to the SHO over the phone and demanded Rs.1 crore, police said. Investigators said the SHO was unable to arrange the amount.htc...
