LUCKNOW, Sept. 9 -- The Uttar Pradesh Bar Council on Tuesday suspended with immediate effect the registration of Central Bar Association (CBA), Lucknow, president Akhilesh Jaiswal and general secretary Avnish Dixit as advocates and issued show-cause notices to them. The Bar Council passed the order at an emergent virtual meeting. HT has a copy of the order. The action was taken over alleged non-compliance with orders of the high court and the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh regarding the conduct of elections to the Central Bar Association, said Srinath Tripathi, one of five members appointed by the high court to supervise the elections. Tripathi is a former member of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. The council has asked Jaiswal and Dixit to explain why their registration should not be cancelled permanently under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961. The decision was taken on a proposal moved by former chairman and member Devendra Mishra Nagarha. According to the Bar Council, following an order of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, it authorised the Elders Committee on August 23 to conduct the elections and appointed five observers-Srinath Tripathi, Imran Mabud Khan, Madhusudan Tripathi, Devendra Mishra Nagarha and Shrish Kumar Mehrotra-to oversee the polls. The council alleged that Jaiswal and Dixit rejected its decision by passing a resolution in the House. s The matter will be heard by a disciplinary committee comprising chairman Shivkishor Gaur and member Srinath Tripathi, which will pass a final order after hearing the two advocates.
