Meerut, Sept. 12 -- The Uttar Pradesh fisheries department, in coordination with the Bareilly district administration, detected the illegal farming of banned Thai mangur fish in a pond in the district and destroyed around 200 kg of the fish, officials said on Friday. The action was taken during a surprise inspection in Raiya Nagla village under Mirganj tehsil, where the joint team found the prohibited fish being bred in a pond spread across nearly 2.5 bighas, Bareilly district magistrate Avinash Singh said. According to officials, the pond belonged to a man identified as Chand Babu. Around 200 kg of Thai mangur, also known as African catfish (Clarias gariepinus), was found in the pond. HTC...
